A Clean Slate, Or: How My Old Posts Are Now Lost Probably Forever

Nerdjoy Clean Slate

You might have noticed the URL for the blog has changed as well as the layout, and hey, where did all the old posts go?! So much change! Aaah!

It’s okay. We’re good. Well, sort of…

To begin this kind of long story, I have wanted to “rebrand” Nerdjoy for the millionth time, but this one was going to be different because it was going to be the blog’s FINAL FORM. Much like a final boss fight in a video game, Nerdjoy had several versions in the past–each one adding on to the next. The initial goal when starting this blog was to create a website completely focused on geek fashion and beauty while still holding to my beliefs of cruelty-free, vegan beauty and now sustainable and ethical fashion.

Whew, has that been a long journey. Did you know Nerdjoy is about 4 years old? I’ve neglected the poor thing for too long, mostly because of outside factors like severe depression, anxiety, work, getting married. You know, adulting.

So I finally put it on my calendar to update the blog because it had outgrown its old template. I had a to-do list of refining the content, updating graphics, and do other magical coding and designing stuff…

The Great Oops of 2017

Unfortunately, and much to my dismay, the old Nerdjoy content didn’t backup properly and now I’m left with starting from scratch. Practically a brand new blog with years worth of content vanished.

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. So many fun memories, pictures I didn’t save anywhere else, are now all gone. Just like that. It seriously felt like a chunk of me falling off and just turning to dust.

After lamenting on my newb techie mistake, I also have slowly discovered this is a blessing in disguise.

Before the Great Oops of 2017, I felt very much “stuck” with the old Nerdjoy. There were posts no longer relevant to the website but I couldn’t bring myself to do anything about it. So much of the content needed heavy reformatting and I always hated the original URL. Nerdjoy is more than just a simple blog–I want it to be an entirely inclusive community.

A (kinda) new Nerdjoy

So, while some stuff I did want to keep and update is now lost forever, this is an opportunity to start with a clean slate.

There are new parts of Nerdjoy as well as ones that are returning from the previous version of the blog. Here’s a full list:

  • Nerdjoy now has a Fashion Design & Marketing section, which will focus on content made specifically for those in the geek/niche fashion community. There will be information on how to build up a social following, sketching forms, and other neat-o stuff.
  • There are sub-categories for Ethical Sustainability and Style For Good, which I will expand upon later.
  • A newly renovated Lifestyle area which will focus on fandom related home goods, travel, self-love, and motivation.

As mentioned earlier in this post, the new-ish Nerdjoy will only focus on cruelty-free and vegan beauty products and give higher priority to indie and ethical fashion labels. There are so many great geek fashion designers out there and it feels like nobody talks about them or it is difficult to find a good resource on all of them, while everyone seems to keep talking about Hot Topic or the like. Not on Nerdjoy. I want to create THE resource to find your favorite designers as well as general brands (not just specifically geek niche) that are ethical and sustainable in their creation process.

If you’re an indie geek fashion or beauty brand owner, DO reach out. I want to showcase you, interview you, let you thrive on this blog. YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!

The change keeps on comin’

While I was able to find bits and pieces of older posts, most of them will be rewritten and published to the blog with newer images and information. This is probably going to take the longest as there is so much new stuff I want to add on top of that work.

Whew, looking at everything again leaves me a little overwhelmed but also optimistic. Hopefully, you will continue to follow me on this journey and enjoy the new-new-NEW Nerdjoy!
